5 Mistakes Everyone Should Avoid When Running Ads For The First Time!

Launching your first ads account can be exciting. On the other hand you might have some feelings of self doubt, nervousness, or even feeling overwhelmed. All of these feelings are valid and no one wants to make a mistake on their first ads account but it can happen to someone. But that someone doesn’t have to be you. Avoid THESE mistakes when starting out and it’ll give you a major advantage in your account!

1. Not QA’ing campaigns before they launch - this is a common mistake media buyer’s make. Always make sure to QA your campaigns, ad copy, keywords, creatives, budget, landing pages, etc. Making this mistake can not only hurt the account but also possibly hurt the trust between you and your clients

2. Trusting Google’s Recommendations Blindy - To Google’s credit they do have some good recommendations here and there. But you do not want to accept all the insights they might have. Only accept recommendations you see fit to the account you are working on.

3. Be realistic about your expectations -Being able to scale is something that is truly possible. But you need to make sure that there is a dash of strategy, a giant loaf of best practices, and a sprinkle of patience to scale an account you, your team, and clients can be proud of!

4. Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly Diligence - Always remember that small things do make a big difference in an account. Is the budget pacing correctly? Are there any negative keywords I can add or exclude? Am I testing enough? Any big changes coming to the clients website or business? There is always something you can optimize…always.

5. Doubting your skills as a media buyer - This one might sound a little cheesy but it’s true. Not a single media buyer knows every single thing about this field (and if you know someone that does let me know so I can connect with them..jk) The absolute best thing you can do is get the fundamentals down and bring your own perspective to your team and to the client.
